23 Aug - 22 Sept
The sixth sign of the Zodiac, Virgo is symbolised by the virgin. This is appropriate as it reflects their cool and disciplined outlook on life. Both rational and intelligent, they are rarely outwitted and convicing them they are not right could be difficult.
Their coolness and preciseness can mean they are rarely tolerant of others that lack of knowledge or common sense. As perfectionists this bears out their critical streak in others - as well as themselves when they are at fault. Finally as hardworking perfectionists, they are also shy in larger groups - so underestimate at your peril.
The sign of Virgo has a range of traits that befit 'the virgin'. From a calm intensity of character through to their coolness and perfectionist attitude. Struck with intelligence however they can be damning of others that challenge their authority or attack their person
The planet Mercury rules Virgo and Gemini and both have the traits that show in different ways. Geminis convert into nervous energy, but Virgo's hide theirs beneath their cool and calm exterior until resolved. The most dominant personality trait seems therefore to be perfection. With an analytical mind and intelligence, making everything perfect is what they do best and practical problems are there to be solved
Finally, as discussed their main weakness is that they tend to be critical of others and themselves. As a knock on effect Virgo's can therefore also be worriers and hypochondriacs.

Personal relationships :
Both male and female Virgo's come with a considerable amount of charm as well as their coolness. Intellectually strong and dominant, they can giev off an air of confidence that is especially appealing to some. With a large affectionate gene Virgo's make good spouses and parents.
However, rather than lovemaking and sex being sput of the moment or 'off the cuff' some may try to seek perfection in technique, rather than seeking expression of desire. So be warned if you are trying to make out with a partner that has a considerable sex drive and oodles of passion
Virgo Health :
Due to the fact that Virgo is one of the most health-conscious of all the signs of the zodiac those born under this sign have less to worry about in this department. Virgo tends to enjoy physical exercise and fits easily into this type of energetic regime. Their natural interest in and attention to this life issue generates a protective attitude towards their physical state of being. However, there are certain parts of the body that Virgo is advised to pay more attention to than others if Virgo wants to remain in the best of health over the longer period. The abdomen and the digestive system in particular is said to be that area of the body to which those of the sign of Virgo need to direct most care and therefore Virgo's best way to a healthy metabolism is by taking great care of the diet. If their diet is not attended to properly then Virgo can suffer from intestinal problems which may lead to constipation or even irritable bowel syndrome.
Some problems with the digestion suffered by Virgo can be tackled by eating at regular intervals and the chewing of food thoroughly before swallowing is also highly recommended.
Virgo can also be prone to depression but this too can be tackled to some extent by a sensible diet rich in B vitamins. Virgo is more likely to succumb to imaginary diseases than real ones and hypochondria can become a growing problem if this is allowed to get out of control.
Virgo Money/Career :
Virgo, being an active and energetic character with a love of exercise and physical fitness can often be found in outdoor types of work. Virgo tends not to fare well when cooped up in small offices and those office type work places that are composed of little, individual booths are anathema to them.
Their preference for the great outdoors makes Virgo ideally suited to being farmers although this is unfortunately a career option that is open to few, whichever sign of the zodiac one may have been born under.
Virgo has a great interest in taking care of others. This, coupled with Virgo's attention to detail and order makes them wonderful doctors or nurses or in fact being employed in any job connected with the health services. In much the same way a teaching career can be immensely satisfying to Virgo.
Virgo's great skill in communication leads many from this sign to enter a journalistic career and many Virgos are to be found in this type of profession.
Virgo is not generally considered to be a natural leader and can flounder when put in management positions unless they are complete masters of their brief.
Where money is concerned, Virgo's attention to order and their ability to focus on minutiae usually means that their personal finances are kept in good order. However, this does not turn Virgo into a miser, feverishly counting every penny they earn. In fact Virgo has no great love of money and this is a fine quality indeed.
Virgo in Astrology :
Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac and is symbolised most often by the Virgin. Virgo is one of the three Earth signs, the others being Taurus and Capricorn. Just like Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces, we find that Virgo is negative in polarity meaning that those of this sign prefer to be self-reliant rather than look to others for help and co-operation.
Originally Virgo was seen to embody two seemingly contradictory symbolical traits: that of being both the mother and the virgin. In Middle Eastern mythology Virgo was associated with the idea of fertility and the harvesting of crops. According to some sources the figure of Virgo has its origins in the ancient Goddess religions and the image retained in the zodiac is one of the few references remaining to this age old matriarch.
The glyph or symbol that is most often used to portray the sign of the zodiac we know as Virgo can be read as the Latin letter M and this has associations with the Virgin Mary, another link, some say to the ancient cult of the mother goddess.
